We've got it figured out. Earl Grey tea, but make it a latte and call it London Fog. London Fog latte, but make it iced. Add your favourite sweetener like vanilla and/or honey, and try to stop yourself from making it every single day. Perfect to cool down with in the summer. Or to start your mornings with some extra happiness. All done in less than 5 minutes!
If you drink tea and have cooked pretty much anything, you probably already have all of the ingredients to make this iced London fog tea latte in your pantry. If not, read below for easy ingredient swaps you could make.
Ingredients
Earl Grey Tea: This is the base tea for a London Fog. Don't just use any black tea, the bergamot in Earl Grey is key to getting the correct taste profile in a classic London Fog. For an even easier alternative, use London Fog microground tea. It dissolves easily and in less time than it takes to steep a tea bag.
Milk: Yes, you can use any of your milk alternative preferences here. Cow's milk, almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, lactose free milk, coconut milk, it all works! We love Earth's Own Oat Milk, a favourite Canadian brand.
Vanilla extract: The subtly sweet flavour of vanilla is another key ingredient in an iced London Fog latte. If you're using OGB's London Fog microground tea mix, it's not necessary - unless you want to add a dash more for your personal sweet tooth!
Honey: The floral flavour of honey plays so well here, feel free to use any type of honey or even real maple syrup in this recipe!
Ice. Any shape you like.
Now with that out of the way. Let's move straight to the recipe.
How to Make Iced London Fog Tea Latte
- Add boiling water to a mixing cup with the Earl Grey tea, or 2 tsp of London Fog microground tea mix.
- (If using tea: strain out the tea, or remove the tea bag, after 7 minutes.) Whisk in 1 tsp of honey until fully dissolved.
- Pour the milk and vanilla extract into the tea and honey mixture. Stir very well to combine.
- Add ice, and shake or stir until completely cold.
- Pour into glass for serving immediately!
That's really it! So easy, so simple, and so good. Coffee stores and cafés typically use their vanilla liquid flavouring pump as they have it handy for making other drinks, so you can use that if you want an even closer taste to Starbucks and the like.
What is a London fog?
Classically, a London fog is a cup of hot Earl grey tea with milk and sweet vanilla syrup. Our version today is technically an iced London fog, but it is more commonly enjoyed hot. If you want a hot version, you just have to skip the ice and shaking steps!
What does an iced London fog taste like?
This drink tastes like a sweet, slightly floral and creamy iced tea. Think sweet tea, but with more nuanced flavours from the Bergamot citrus in the Earl Grey tea. If you like Italian sodas, you will love the milk in this iced tea.
Why is a London fog called a London fog?
While there are multiple different theories as to why this drink got its name, one of the most common beliefs is because of the way the milk forms rolling clouds as it is poured into the hot tea. It reminds those of the always foggy/cloudy London.
